Wisdom From Others

The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.
-- Ecclesiastes 9:17 (KJV Holy Bible)

Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.
-- Ecclesiastes 10:1 (KJV Holy Bible)

That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
-- Matthew 5:45 (KJV Holy Bible)

Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
-- Ecclesiastes 9:9 (KJV Holy Bible)

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
-- Ecclesiastes 9:10 (KJV Holy Bible)

11     I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
12     For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
-- Ecclesiastes 9:11-12 (KJV Holy Bible)

ATTITUDES

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company ... a church ... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past ... we cannot change the fact the people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one thing we have, and that is our attitude ... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you ... we are in charge of our Attitudes."
-- Charles Swindoll

We cannot know, we may not tell.
How we are saved from death and hell.
Thru faith we know that all is well
He took our sins away.
-- from the song "Thank God For The Blood" by G. T. Haywood

Christ demanded of us that we don the white dress of a pure and holy life. But what instead occupies our thoughts? We do not dispute concerning the way to Christ, but on his relationship to God the Father, on the Trinity, predestination, freedom of the will, the nature of God, the angels, the state of the soul after death - on a multitude of things which are not essential to salvation; things which in truth, we can never know unless our hearts are pure, for these things must be comprehended spiritually.
-- Sebastianus Castellio of around the 1550's Reformation age
-- quoted in "The Heretics" by Walter Nigg

personal note: I agree with Castellio about the fact many Christians disagree too strongly on minor dogma points, but I don't believe everyone agrees on the way to Christ.

God the Father is called the son in assuming flesh from the Virgin, and that the Father is called the Holy Ghost in sanctifying the rational creature and moving it to life.
-- Sabellius, a Roman Christian theologian of the third century

Jesus is the answer
for the world today.
Above Him, there's no other.
For Jesus is the way.
-- lyrics from "Jesus is the answer" by Andrae Crouch in 1973

Cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you.
The intagible He holds,
The impossible He'll do.
Let the mighty hand of Jesus carry you.
Cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you.

-- lyrics from "Cast your cares on Him" by Randy Phillips, 1985, of Phillips, Craig, and Dean

Who is He?...The mightiest of all.
Who is He?...Creation trembles at His call.
Who is He?...The lowly sacrifice, who paid a victims price.
His name is Jesus.

-- lyrics from "The Lion and the Lamb" by Crystal Lewis -- talking about the duality of God's nature.

"The most important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity."
-- Albert Einstein

"The significant problems we face can not be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them."
-- Albert Einstein

"Imagination is more important than knowledge."
-- Albert Einstein

My only claim to wisdom is that I know I am not wise.
-- Socrates

"Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end."
-- Mr. Spock (from Star Trek)

Eternal Vigilance is the price of liberty.
-- Rudyard Kiplang

Walk softly, but carry a big stick.
-- Teddy Rossevelt
